Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
User interface
The manufacturer is reported incorrectly or not
reported at all.
The hard disk drives do not report the manufacturers (for the
present moment). Hard Drive Inspector tries to deduce the manufacturer from the
model number, and this sometimes is not an easy task. Please send an email
report to
the technical support to see if an easy solution
can be found. Thank you!
The Windows property page of a volume reports a
slightly different amount of free space or volume capacity.
Some versions of Windows truncate the displayed value after
conversion to another unit; Hard Drive Inspector correctly rounds it. You can
check the Windows bug by repeatedly dividing the number of bytes by 1.024 (for
MB divide 2 times, for GB divide 3 times) and round the result.
Why can't I run two instances of Hard Drive Inspector simultaneously?
Hard Drive Inspector is a system utility and there is no need
to see the same information in two different instances of the program. When you
try to start another instance of Hard Drive Inspector the previous one will be
activated.
I got accustomed to use the keyboard in any case. Why does Hard Drive
Inspector limit my habit?
It is true that Hard Drive Inspector is more adapted to be
operated with the help of a mouse. However, many actions may be performed not
only using a mouse but using a keyboard as well. See the Shortcuts
section.
How can I see the history of the S.M.A.R.T. attribute values?
Switch to the "S.M.A.R.T.
details" section, open the attribute's row by clicking on it, click on the
"view diagram" hyperlink to open the diagram dialog. Double-click on the diagram
to see "... values history" dialog.
